Where do you see faith at work? In your life? Do you see it at work in your neighborhood or in your family? Where in the world do you see faith at work? This week, we see Jesus do amazing work in the most unexpected places, and in the most unexpected ways. In our life’s map of experiences we can more clearly see how our faith and work can bring unexpected blessings.

This Labor Day weekend we will celebrate God’s work in our lives that we see most clearly as we put our faith in Jesus Christ into practice.

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).

We will recognize and remember 9/11 on its 20th anniversary, Patriot Day, and reaffirm God’s presence with us in all times and places.

Gathering At the Lord’s Table 

Our in-person worshippers will be provided pre-packaged communion cups, which on-line worshippers may request by contacting the office. Or, you choose the bread. For the cup, you may use grape juice or wine, or water, remembering that Christ is the Living Water for all.

Rediscover God’s love for you and live your very best life in Christ!

Have you ever felt like giving up on God? Most of us have felt that way from time to time. But, if not giving up on God or our idea of God, maybe we’ve given up on religion, or have been mistreated by religious people, or the church. We may feel that too many people have lied or died or failed in the name of Christ for anyone to take Jesus’ call seriously. Yes, it’s tough to hear the simple invitation of Jesus, Follow me!, with all the noise.

When we consider those who found Jesus’ words extremely difficult to believe, we will see that we are not alone! To them (and maybe to us, too?), Jesus’ claims were just too outrageous to be taken seriously. Many people have mistaken or miscommunicated Jesus’ message entirely. Sometimes we just give up too soon. This week, we will hear a fresh expression of the Gospel from John 6:63-69 in a message titled, “Leaving So Soon?,” that will echo Joshua’s challenge to the ancient Israelites to choose wisely, even when choosing is hard. Discover, or re-discover, God’s love for YOU this Sunday. Clearly hear Jesus say to you, “Yes, it’s tough. I understand. I love you. I will never give up on you!” Let’s not leave too soon…and instead renew our commitment to really hear Jesus’ words of life and spirit!

Feeling stuck? Get the resources you need to get up and live your very best life in Christ!

Do you feel stuck? We all feel that way from time to time, and it’s not a good feeling! Just ask Elijah! This week we will meet Elijah in our Scripture reading from 1 Kings. He wanted clearer instructions from God and was feeling very stuck. So stuck, he crawled into a cave to sleep his uncertainty off. This week we will also discover how the crowds with Jesus were stuck trying to understand how Jesus could be the Bread of Heaven when the only heavenly bread they knew about was in a Bible story. While God has a purpose for each of us, those plans are rarely straightforward.

When we feel stuck spiritually, we need to take the steps that are the clearest to us and get moving. God understands our need for clarity and gives us the basics to take the following steps of faith as we follow the Spirit. We all need to hear God say to us right where we are, “We can do this!” We need our community to hear God speak to them, too, “We can do this!”. If you feel like you’re stuck on the bench of faith, get ready to relocate! Spiritual nourishment ahead at Cold Spring Church!

Don’t consume fast-food spirituality! Get a nutritious meal for your spirit here!

Good nutrition is essential for optimal health. Have your eating habits changed over the past eighteen months due to the pandemic? Most of us have experienced disruptions to our eating habits which have only gradually returned to normal. For some of us, we are stress-eating and snacking more often. And snacking is something Americans have been doing since the first wax paper-bagged potato chips were sold in 1922! Our poor food choices include fast food, too.

Just like we need to improve our physical eating habits, we should pay better attention to our spiritual eating habits, too. This week, Jesus cautions us about the dangers of a fast-food spirituality. That can occur when we skip the important nutrition derived from time with God in prayer, worship, with each other, and in service to others. We tend to fill our spirits with empty food that does not satisfy us, leaving us fatigued and distracted from being spiritually energized! Jesus is the bread of life! The abundant life in Christ is available to all of us. Maybe you’re looking for a sign, a direction, resources to take your next step toward improved spiritual health. You’ve come to the right place! Worship Preview

Jesus didn’t come to save your soul, but so much more!

  God is in the Neighbor-Business! Not leaving us alone, Jesus came, fully human and divine, to not only save our souls, our spiritual life but to make us whole, mind, and body, too! This week at Cold Spring Church, we will rediscover what it means to be in a relationship not only with our Creator but with each other, within ourselves. Our sacred duty is to become human, wholly and genuinely human. We don’t have to remain as we are, but as God creates us to be.

“Christ’s purpose was to create in himself one new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross, by which he put to death their hostility” (Ephesians 2:15b-16).

Be a neighbor! Now, more than ever, our world, community, and each of us, need to re-capture what it means to be a good neighbor. And it starts with you and me as Christ transforms us in mind, body, and spirit. Remember, it’s not about getting and hoarding all God’s blessings for ourselves, our side, or our preferences. “God comforts us when we are in trouble so that we can share that same comfort with others in trouble” (2 Corinthians 1:4). Sharing comfort and hope is a great way to be a good neighbor! You belong! God lives in you by the Spirit. Now, that’s good news for all of us!

Worship Preview

God sees you, hears you. Loves you just as you are! Energize your life and discover that God is prepared for your divine interruptions!

Sitting is relaxing. Standing is doing. What does your family stand for? This Fourth of July, we celebrate more than Independence Day. It’s our Interdependence Day. Christ proclaims freedom for all! And until all are free, none are free. Spiritual freedom. Emotional freedom. Physical freedom. Mental freedom. Freedom to enjoy the abundant life in Christ, sins forgiven, hope restored. Let’s stand for something that means everything. Freedom to follow Jesus, in the power of the Holy Spirit, to the glory of God.

As we stand and follow Jesus we will experience success. But, we will also experience failure. We are all interdependent. Dependent on God, of course. But we are all interdependent as a nation, state, community, as with one another. This week, as we gather at the Lord’s Table, we will be inspired by the prophet Elijah and encouraged by Jesus’ disciples as they turn failures into success. What will you do this week as you hear Jesus’ invitation: All. Learn. Stand. Go!

Do you want more or less stress in your life? Of course, less! We seek to reduce distractions and interruptions, even try to eliminate them entirely, believing fewer makes us stronger, when in fact, the opposite can occur. Healthy systems require some stress. Think of bodies without exercise or the downside of overly protective parents. Consider the piano or guitar. Without stress on the strings, music could not be enjoyed. What other “healthy” stressors can you think of?

Jesus knew about stressors in life. He understands your stressors, too. Jesus will not run away or ignore your requests. He sees you, hears you. Just as you are. Loves and receives you at any time of day or night. Whether you are a frequent visitor, or occasional, he never posts a sign, Do Not Disturb. What do you seek from Jesus this week? We are excited to welcome all who are able and comfortable to worship in-person in our historic Red Brick Church on Sundays at 10:30 AM. Your safety, health, and wellness are our top priority. West Jersey Presbytery approved our session’s re-opening plan and our pastor, staff, and teams have worked hard to prepare for your arrival. Following the guidance from the CDC and health officials, we have implemented safety protocols and designed an approximately forty-minute worship experience that will be spiritually energizing and safe for you, your family, and other worshippers.

Dear online worshipping friends: We apologize in advance should our live stream be interrupted by Facebook. We are working with Facebook and the music publishers to honor our music licenses and resolve these disconnect issues. Any interrupted live stream will be re-launched within a minute or two.
