Do you know what time it is? Sure, your watch will tell you the time, but time itself? What is it? Time is simply a measure of distance. Time is life itself that passes along. It is not a tangible thing, time measures tangible things. \Time does not stand still. It is not a commodity to be held, set aside, or saved. Time cannot be stored. Nor can it be ignored. It cannot be spent, or lost. Time cannot be our enemy, or be “on our side.” There are no more hours in your day than in any other’s day. While we often feel pressure when “running out of time,” or impatient “waiting our time,” time is simply the unit we use to track and measure  experience, movement, and growth, that is, life Time is a way to measure our life. How does your life measure up?

This week, we celebrate God’s creative power and involvement in our lives through Jesus Christ. We begin with a hero story about Queen Esther who saved her people from the scoundrel, Haman. “For such a time as this,” Esther said, I have been put right where I am!” She decided now is the time to take a step of faith and courage.

Leaving the Queen’s story, our Scripture readings teleport us 500 years  when we will hear Jesus tell his followers not to interfere when other’s do God’s work even if they are not part of their group. In fact, we should welcome them. Everyone can live and share the Good News. With Queen Esther and the disciples of Jesus, seriously, now is the time for living! Yes, now!

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).

“…That you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” (Eph. 3:18).

Worship Your Way! In-Person, or Online. Masks are optional for vaccinated worshippers.

We are excited to welcome to worship all who are able and comfortable in-person in our historic Red Brick Church on Sundays at 10:30 AM. Your safety, health, and wellness are our top priority. Following the guidance from the CDC and health officials, we have implemented safety protocols and designed an approximately forty-minute worship experience that will be spiritually energizing and safe for you, your family, and other worshippers.

Humans have always been mobile. Like God said, “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.” We certainly have. Our personal and global history bears witness to our mobility from our first crawl to walking, running, our first bike and first car. as we expand throughout our planet. We take walks on the beach or paths in the mountains. Collectively we have walked on the moon, sent spacecraft far out beyond our solar system and just this week four civilians were launched into a three-day orbit around our planet.

Jesus was always on the move, too. This week we take a walk with Jesus and his disciples when he reminds us that we must all be as children, welcoming of God’s love and welcoming of all others, too. You want to be the best? Be the servant of all. As we grow older, we are still on the move physically and mentally. The worship theme this week is no one is left behind. In what way do we stay mobile, growing and learning, spiritually?

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).

“…That you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” (Eph. 3:18).

Who are you? When asked that question you may instinctively give your name, or begin to recall the Who’s rock song, Who Are You? You may respond with the many identities you express in your life. Your citizenship, nationality, gender, personality, health status or political orientation. You may describe your faith, too, for example, I am a follower of Jesus. Who we are is connected to our many relationships, joys, passions, skills, and values at home, leisure, or work. These good responses are not “all” of who you are, but all these hint at the who of you. This week in our Old Testament reading from Psalm 116, we learn that God inclines his “ear” to us. Amazing! The God of the universe leans in and pays attention to us. God listens intently not only to our words, sighs, but lovingly understands our feelings, pains, and dreams, too. In our Gospel reading we find Jesus out of his home area and asks the people “Who am I?” Jesus “inclined his ear” towards them and invited them to be real with him, as he was with them. But what we will discover in what happened next when Peter reprimanded Jesus (!) Will help us connect the Who with the Do, because who we are is inseparable from what we do. This week at Cold Spring Church, let’s put our Who in our Do!

“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10).

“…That you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God” (Eph. 3:18).
